Seasonal Tips

Spring: touladi ride high after ice-out — long-line troll the first weeks of the season, checking Zone 2 dates first. Summer: the trout drop deep; downriggers over the 40 m+ basins keep you in the game, and whitefish share the same water. Fall: trout push back toward the shoals as the season closes — verify the closing date, it comes early. The lake's length funnels wind — plan crossings for morning.

About This Place

Lac Témiscouata is the giant of the Bas-Saint-Laurent interior — nearly forty kilometres of water up to 99 metres deep, threading the Appalachian hills between Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac and Dégelis. Since 2009 much of its eastern shore has belonged to Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata, which protects not just forest but one of Québec's richest archaeological landscapes. For anglers the lake means one thing above all: touladi. The lake trout fishery here draws rods from across the region, supported by lake whitefish, brook trout, perch, and suckers in the provincial inventory.

Big water, big rules: the lake's depth keeps trout comfortable all summer for those with downriggers, while the park sectors add paddle-in tranquility and Sépaq-managed access on the northeast shore. Wind runs the length of the lake and builds serious waves — respect the fetch. A Québec licence is required, and Zone 2's touladi seasons and limits are strict and specific; read the current summary before targeting the lake's signature fish.

Best Time to Visit

Spring (May-June): Post-ice-out is prime time for Grand corégone. Water temperatures are ideal and fish are actively feeding after the long winter.
Summer (July-August): Switch to early morning and late evening bites. Deep water trolling produces best results.
Fall (September-October): Arguably the best season — cooler water triggers aggressive feeding. Fall colours make this an especially scenic time to visit.
Winter: Ice fishing is productive from January through March. Check ice conditions with local outfitters.

Terrain & Topography

A 39 km Appalachian trench lake reaching 99 m deep between Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac and Dégelis, its eastern shores largely inside Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata. Long fetch, deep cold basins, and park-managed access on the northeast side.

Regulations & Permits

A valid Quebec fishing licence is required for all anglers 16 and older. Licences can be purchased online through the provincial government website or at local tackle shops. Conservation licence holders have reduced catch limits. Check the current Quebec Fishing Regulations Summary for species-specific size and catch limits — regulations for Grand corégone are strictly enforced. Bait restrictions may apply — check zone-specific rules. Catch-and-release is encouraged for trophy-sized fish to maintain the healthy population.
