Seasonal Tips
September: moose in the river-flat willow — call at dawn before the valley winds wake. September–October: bears on the salmon reaches — spectacular, and demanding of clean-camp discipline. Goat draws hunt the alpine early before snow closes it. Coastal weather rules: rain gear is not optional equipment, and river levels move on Pacific schedules.
About This Place
The Skeena country around Hazelton and the Kispiox — where BC's great salmon river gathers its tributaries beneath the Seven Sisters peaks — hunts as dramatically as it photographs: moose in the river-flat willow and cottonwood, black bears fattening along salmon streams in densities the spawning runs subsidize, and mountain goats holding the peaks for those drawn into the limited-entry alpine. The salmon-bear relationship is the region's signature — autumn bears here are river bears, patterning on the runs like everyone else in the watershed.
This is also deeply Indigenous country — Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en territories whose governance and land relationships hunters should arrive understanding — and the access ethic runs accordingly. BC Region 6 rules govern, with moose subject to the north's tightened antler and LEH structures and non-residents requiring guide outfitters. The Skeena's weather comes off the coast wet and stays; gear for rainforest, hunt in mountains.

Best Time to Visit
Primary season: August - October. The rut period (late October to mid-November) is prime time for big game — bucks are active and responsive to calls. Late season hunts (November-December) can be brutally cold but offer the best trophy potential. Dawn and dusk are the most productive hours — plan to be in position 30 minutes before legal shooting time.
Terrain & Topography
Salmon-river valleys beneath the Seven Sisters: willow-cottonwood flats, bear-thick spawning tributaries like the Kispiox, and limited-entry goat alpine above — wet, dramatic, Indigenous-titled country.
Regulations & Permits
